Freshbooks Commercial for the Globe & Mail

As a user of Freshbooks myself, I was very excited to be featured in their recent commercial for the Globe and Mail. If you're a small business owner, I recommend managing your books and invoices with this program. When I started Justine Elise Interiors I was illiterate when it came to business accounting. (I think many people in creative industries can relate.) Freshbooks is an effortless way to stay organized, and to keep on top of your numbers.

It was a fun day of shooting, and the video has turned out amazing thanks to the awesome production team. A huge thank you to Freshbooks and the production team!!!

I would love to hear how other industry professionals manage their books. Let me know in the comments!

Luxy Hair Headquarters

Over the past few months I've had the joy of working with Luxy Hair team to bring their new Toronto office to life. We've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of a pink, velvet, mid-century chaise lounge (be still my heartπŸ’“) for the big reveal. Here's a shot of the entrance lounge area in the meantime.

Staging 4C-36 Hazelton Avenue

We recently had the opportunity to stage one of Yorkville's most exclusive residences, 36 Hazelton Avenue. It was a pleasure to fully stage such a beautiful space. From completely vacant, to fully-furnished, we would love to hear your feedback in the comments!

Staging for the summer market

This week I had the opportunity to sit down with Keller Willam's agent Paul Greenberg to discuss staging in the summer market. This is our third video together! If you haven't caught the others, check them out here.

Endless Summer

As soon as the weather hits 10 degrees, most Torontonians are hopping on a patio, and staying there for the summer. Whether it's at a local pub, or in a friends yard, we're set on soaking in as much sun as possible, before going back to hibernation for 3/4's of the year.

It's important to embrace this excitement when preparing your home for sale.

A Well Manicured Lawn

Mow the lawn. Pick the weeds. Plant some floral. Clear pathways. Not a hands on person? Hire a landscaper!

Your property will looks its best when the grass is green and the sun is shining. This is a huge advantage of listing in the summer.  A well maintained lawn gives the impression of a well maintained property!

Increased Living Space

Show off the extra footage your outdoor spaces provide. Fully utilize patios and yards, showing them as usable areas. Patio furniture and outdoor decor will excite potential buyers, helping them envision how they can entertain in, and enjoy the spaces themselves.

Pro Tip : Add "lifestyle cues:" accessorize to show how the potential buyer can enjoy the space. This CB2 Beverage Dispenser could be filled and place on a patio during an open house.  Β

Glistening Windows

Let the sunlight in! Wash all windows so they glisten. Scrub off any film. Remove any condensation. The goal is to maximize the amount of light coming in, to make the space feel bright and airy. Here are a few tips from my girl Martha.

Pro Tip: Remove the screens when listing your house. They're just one more thing standing between your property and the sunshine.

Beautiful floor to ceiling windows at the 12 Degrees penthouse we staged. The view is such an important feature of this space. The extra steps taken to clean the windows helped show it off to it's full potential.

Feature Listing: Gorgeous Queen West Suite

Last week we staged our second unit at 15 Beverley. Developed by BSAR Group of Companies, the 12 Degrees building has a boutique feel, right in the heart of Queen West. I mean, it has a rooftop pool people!

Both units were previously vacant, so we really got to flex our creative muscles when staging. It's currently listed at $455,400 with Chestnut Park broker Josh Klein.

Our team will always go above and beyond to make a space feel complete. Often times that means adding a personal touch, or digging in to our own collections. (It's tough to draw boundaries when you're so invested in having great results.) For this project, Anna volunteered art from her personal collection. A gift to her husband for their anniversary, she blew up the sheet music for Radiohead's "All I Need" and had it custom framed. It gives the space an extra touch of character.

Acapulco Chairs are traditionally used outdoors, but we love them in any setting. They're surprisingly comfortable too!

Home Staging as a Career: Reflections

One of the joys of staging is that, with each project, I get to discover a new slice of Toronto life. Whether it's taking in the sunset views from a beautiful new Queen West penthouse, or getting to know a family as we work together to prepare their home for sale. It truly is a dynamic career, with a variety of challenges, but huge rewards. I'm grateful for all of our opportunities so far, and am excited to continue to grow. So THANK YOU, to all of the agents who continue to partner with us, and all of the love and support we get from friends and family!

Throwback Thursday: Toronto Life "Condo of the Week"

Throwback to May 23rd, 2014, when the hard loft we staged was featured as the Toronto Life Condo of the Week. We worked with Keller Williams agent Paul Greenberg to showcase this space to it's full potential.

736 Dundas Street East is filled with character. With windows covering the span of the walls, exposed pipes and beautifully coloured brick, it was a great backdrop for staging.

The original tenants had pets, and a lot of interesting collectibles and books, but it was our job to transform it into a buyer friendly, move-in ready space. We helped our clients de-clutter, paint and clean, before bringing in our own furniture and accessories. This project was a true pleasure and I always love throwing back to it.

Here are a few photos, taken by Matt Vardy of My Home Viewer:

Do you prefer a hard loft full of character, or a brand spankin' new space full of updates?
